## What it is?

CWMP – CPE WAN Management Protocol – is an application layer protocol. It was defined by [Broadband Forum](https://www.broadband-forum.org/) in [TR-069 Technical Report](https://www.broadband-forum.org/pdfs/tr-069-1-6-1.pdf), for remote management of customer-premises equipment (CPE) connected to an Internet Protocol (IP) network. TR-069 report describes the CPE WAN Management Protocol, intended for communication between a CPE and Auto-Configuration Server (ACS).&#x20;

The protocol addresses telecom devices, such as modems, routers, gateways, as well as end-user devices that connect to the Internet, such as set-top boxes, and VoIP-phones.&#x20;
